Student Assistant, Instruction & Outreach, Special Collections & University Archives

Scotty Beland is a student assistant in the Instruction and Outreach department in the University Libraries' Special Collections and University Archives. He is also an MLIS candidate at the University of Maryland with a focus on Archives and Digital Curation and will be pursuing an additional certificate in Museum Scholarship and Material Culture. With a background in fine and performing arts, he received a BFA in Digital Photographic Imaging with a minor in Graphic Design and got his start freelancing and with an internship at The Kennedy Center in 2011. Since then, Scotty has worked with theatre companies, museums, individual artists and other companies to produce marketing materials, branding projects and multimedia for theatrical productions. This profound connection with artistic production has led to interest in its preservation, storage, and use as educationally valuable material has been the main focus of his research so far. As a collaborator, he produced the branding for The 1856 Project.
