Douglas McElrath is the Director of Special Collections & University Archives at the University of Maryland Libraries.  He also is an affiliate faculty member in UMD’s School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation where he teaches in its Historic Preservation Program.  He has 40 years experience curating Maryland history collections at the Maryland State Archives and the University of Maryland.  His research interests include the culture of print in ante-bellum Maryland, and the preservation of historic resources and narratives in Prince George’s County.  As co-director of the NEH-funded Historic Maryland Newspaper Project he has overseen the digitization of over 400,000 pages of newspapers.  He has curated numerous major exhibits, including Beyond the Battle: Bladensburg Rediscovered.
